There is a sylabus for troop level JLT. It should be available at your council
service center. You might also ask around at roundtable. All foraml training in
BSA has a sylabus that must be followed. This insures that course attendance in
one part of the country is equal to attending the same course in another part
of the country.
BTW, the JLT sylabus focuses on team building, includes about six hours of
exercise and reflection. Even lunch is part of the training experience. The
sylabus includes a video tape with some instructions for the course leader and
several segments which are shown at various points in the training. Cost for
the kit, including the video tape, is $18.00/
Caution: To be effective, the program requires about 10 participants. That can
be a problem in small troops. The last time I did it I had the whole troop
participate in order to get enough boys.
IMHO, this program does little to improve troop operation skills or teaching
skills of the boys. It does improve on team spirit and could be valuable for
otherwise experienced junior leaders.
