The idea of the ceremonies team competions is a good one to help
develop BETTER teams, once you have a group to work with. What
seems to be a common problem with many OA chapters advisors that
I have spoken with, is getting a ceremony team started to begin.
The scouts in the 14-16 year age range are best for the ceremonies,
but how many want to go to extra OA meeting, and rehearse parts?
We have tried to schedule chapter meetings at the same time as
round tables, and asked each unit to bring at least one OA
member to attend the chapter meeting. It is not going well
right now. However, last year, we won the SECTION ceremony
competetion, and sent the team to the nationals! But, now
those guys are off to college, and we are rebuilding! Hey,
we even had free pizza last meeting, and still only had 6!
(including the officers).
Ceremonies is a major part of the OA, and one of the greatest
challanges for an advisor. My thought for the next teams, are
to try to spread the jobs over wider age groups, and have at
least one understudy for each main character.
