For what it is worth, my committee allows me to keep three new BS
handbooks in stock for resale to the new boys. The new boy comes with
parent, fills out app and pays the joining fee $25.00.
That gets him (book 4.95, registered 7.00, boys life 7.80, insurance
1.58, Joining patch ?? for when he earns it, recognition card for
scout patch and a few bucks for the general fund.) We have even been
known to let a boy and parent take the book when the fees aren't paid
if we have a good feeling about it. BTW, the scout pays .50 dues per
regular meeting and never pays for reg, insurance, boys life , etc.
My solution: stock up on the book.
By the way, each new scout and parent gets a package consisting of
a scout book
a scout application
an adult application
a parent talent survey
a class I health form
a copy of the last newsletter
a copy of the current calendar (always with camping dates
at least 6 months ahead.)
a roster of scouts and leaders
a list of gear needed for camping (a packing list, not a shopping list)
a uniform inspection sheet and address of scout shop
I may have forgotten something and not always have I had every item
above, but this is the plan.
