Hornaday clarification: Square knot
(no name) ((no email))
Wed, 16 Dec 1992 15:02:28 CST
This is in reply to Jim Holman's posting asking for clarification on
the new Hornaday square knot.
There is only ONE square knot, and it is worn by Scouts, Scouters, Explorers
that have earned the old gold medal; or by Scouts and Explorers that
have earned the Bronze or Silver medals (NOT the bar pin or the
certificate). Adults may wear the knot also if they have earned the
above awards as a Scout or Explorer.
The knot is identical to the Eagle square knot, except instead of red,
white and blue rope, the rope is green, white and blue (the colors of
the US Enviormental Protection Agency).
If the work, in the opinion of the local Council, meets the
requirements for the Bronze or Silver Medals, no award is presented at
the local Council and the award packet is sent to the National office.
If the work is good, but not good enough to send it forward, the Scout
receives the Badge (bar pin) or certificate (in the case of group
work) but is NOT entitled to wear the square knot for the award.
The square knot is controlled by the National Camping and Conservation
Service and is registered by name and local Council in which you have
earned the award. It cannot be purchased through local Council
Hope that further explains this great award!!
