Mike Nielsen asked how to 'suspend' mail over the holiday. This is how.
All commands to control your receipt of Scouts-L (or any listserv) mail
list postings must be sent to the command and control source, NEVER to the
mail list. Imagine trying to turn off a light bulb by talking to the bulb
instead of using the wall switch by the door.
Similarly, mail that you want others to read you send to
However, send all Commands and controls to
(LISTSERV is the name of the list-controlling machine at ALL Bitnet sites)
Your command is a 1 or 2 line mail message to LISTSERV. Typical commands are
SUBscribe your name (real name, NOT your network ID)
UNSUBscribe listname (SCOUTS-L)
SIGNOFF listname (SCOUTS-L)
SET listname option (SCOUTS-L) (NOMail)
These are some of the 'options': (* = default settings)
NOMAIL to temporarily suspend sending mail to you
MAIL * to resume sending mail to you
ACK to acknowledge receipt of mail you send to list
NOACK * to NOT acknowledge receipt of mail you send to list
FILES to automatically receive any (non-Msg) Files sent to list
NOFILES * to NOT automatically receive non-msg files
REPRO to receive back a copy of your own postings to the list
NOREPRO * to NOT see your own posting msg
End of brief lesson.
To summarize: to suspend mail briefly, send to LISTSERV@tcubvm.bitnet
this message SET SCOUTS-L NOMAIL
to later resume mail, send to LISTSERV@tcubvm.bitnet
this message SET SCOUTS-L MAIL
Peace and Joy to all in this holiday season.
