Just a couple of points
1) I am not in favour of Co-ed Scouting because it is politically
correct but because IT WORKS and is BETTER for the development of
boys as whole human beings than a single sex program. This is
from PERSONAL experience running a co-ed troop - retention
was better development of inter-presonal skills was better and
over all program quality was better.
2) The problems BSA are having with GS are no different than
the problems the Scout Association had with the Girl Guides.
In the end the Scout Association said to heck with it and went
co-ed alone. I feel this is the path the BSA should take
because I really belive in the long run it will produce a
better program for both the boys and the girls.
For those of you that have not tried co-ed scouting I would
say this most of your fears (usually associated with sex) turn out
to be unfounded, there are problems but never the ones you expect
and in general the experiance is every bit as positive for the
leaders as it is for the kids.
