I have seen BOTH the methods that Jim and Leah reviewed! I am not sure
the DE had a choice in the worst case. I think some recruiting activity
was set up at local schools and shopping malls. When it was done, the
REGISTRATION forms were sent to the PACKS!!!!! DONE DEAL. This kid was
registered, adn in your pack . (period) Didn't matter if you already
had a waiting list because you were short of leaders. If the DE was going
to meet with the parents and get the pack some additional leaders FINE.
But that did not happen! And when the parents of the kids on the waiting
list found out! MAN did the BIG pile of SHI-stuff hit the LARGE rotaray
high speed fan!!! I have not heard of any one running a roundup in that
fashion for Cubs in about 10 years. Scouts might work OK that way.
The past few years have been run the WAY Leah reviewed. Leaders were
send to the various schools etc., with flyers listing locations and
leaders names. The FORMS were handed out, to be taken to the leader of
the unit of your choice, and if so indicated, your name was sent to the
leader of the unit. A much better way to run a recruiting system.
