When I was in Minnesota, we had a device from a company in Inver Grove
Heights Minnesota. I beieve it was advertised in Scouting Magazine. It
was electronic and displayed order of finish for four lanes. We had no
problems and no disagreements.
This is intended as information about one system, not as a preference.
Given a choice, I would use highway patrol and sheriff's deputies for the
glamour of it! They didn't judge our race, but one year our pack winners
(top 3) were taken in a squad to the district runoff--carefully timed arrival
with lights and sirens at the entrance to the shopping mall where the race
was run at center court. It helped to have the dispatcher and her officer
husband as active members of the pack committee. The mall was also just
at the edge of our community. The boys were thrilled and the race got some
extra attention in the mall.
