reply to Jim question on service stars AKA year pins:
Our troop does a similar thing. The service stars are presented at
the Dinner in FEB. Anyone that was on "last years charter" and
still on the NEW charter, would get a NEW pin. But, in the case
where a NEW scout joined in Say, April, went to summer camp etc.,
he would NOT get any pin! If he was transfered IN from WEBELOS,
he LOST a PIN year, so to speak. The question was raised to the
council office. What the reply was that "IF A CUB or SCOUT was
continuosly registered for a full 12 months, he should get a PIN."
That was the total answer. We could not decide if he should have
got a CUB pin, since he might have been in CUB/WEBS for a majority
of the year, or what.
I hope that we can get a better explanation as to WHEN and HOW
to award pins as well. Some people make a BIG deal about them.
And when a kid transfers with a 3 year pin already, that may
not haven been awarded under the same rules, it creates more
hard feeling. It would be nice if everone used the same rules.
