Female professional scouters are anything but rare. I have worked with
females professionals over the past 18 years and know hundreds. In fact in
Northeast Ill council there have been more women than men for many years.
Their field director is a female who had no scout background, was born in
South America, and when she first joined as a professional (assigned as a
D.E.) proclaimed at the first district meeting she attended that "being
single, BSA is where the men are."
On the other hand the only female executive I have worked with that
actually was helpful, had very strong Exploring background and had held an
Area youth position in Exploring, very successful young lady.
I personally never did believe that "sex" mattered, but taking the time to
learn, update constantly, read, care, and love those kids do. That always
