What is BSAbITS ?
BSAbITS is an intermittently issued newsletter whenever there is something to
communicate to all you folks on the mailing list. The subject is the use of
Macintosh computers and Scouting. Issues are emailed to subscribers. As the
editor, I need lots of help in the form of contributions. I would like to
trade graphics, answer questions (a-la comp.sys.mac.digest), review computer
programs of use in Scouting, and anything else that seems to fit. Besides I
love to get email.
Who am I ?
I am an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 3, Caldwell, New Jersey in the Essex
Council in New Jersey, USA (my son's Troop). I am also a District Activity
Chairman, as well as a unit commissioner. I am working on my Wood Badge
ticket, having finished the course last fall. Professionally, I am a computer
technology manager at Salomon Brothers Inc, an investment banking firm. I
enjoy combining computers and Scouting. I am always using my Macintosh for
Scouting. I do flyers with Pagemaker, maps with MacDraw Pro, documents with
Microsoft Word and Pagemaker. Recent creations include a 30 page leader's
guide for our camp, a price and services guide for all the Council's camps, an
Interpretive Trail Guide, a Cub Scout summer camp map, many District fund
raising brochures and the District annual dinner brochure. These uses are all
graphic in nature. I also use Microsoft Excel to produce budget documents for
events and courses. My scanner is used to convert printed artwork into digital
To subscribe to BSAbITS, send me email at firstname.lastname@example.org, stating
your real name and email address annd asking to subscribe. The three back
issues will be sent to new subscribers. Contibutions can be sent to this
address as well. If I get good files, I'll send them on to Jon Eidson to
archive them on the SCOUTS-L fileserver.
I hope to see many of you at the 1993 National Jamboree, where I will be
running the computer systems used to create the daily Jamboree newspaper.
