My troop mostly does "dump" camping, with maybe one overnight backpack
per year. We currently rely on boys bringing their own tents because
the last batch of troop-owned tents are now worn out. However, the
troop committe is considering buying new tents once again.
I am looking for info, both pro and con, about specific tents which troops
have owned. I want one truly big enough for two persons plus their gear.
Seems to me that most two-person tents have enough just for ME and MY gear.
Although we don't backpack much, I think canvas would still be too heavy
and bulky. (That's what Philmont issued when I was a Ranger way back in
1970.) I am looking for something sturdy, truely keeps out the rain and
doesn't cost $100's of dollars.
I am using a dome tent from Walmark which cost $45, has a waterPROOF floor,
says it sleeps two, but isn't big enough. In all other ways it meets
