Keith -- My situation is very similar to yours. We have 112 cubs, with
20 Tiger Cubs this year. I have 12 dens each with a registered Den Leader
and Assistant den leader. I also have a committee made up of CC,
treasurer/sec, advancement, and fundraiser chair. I also have two tiger cub
coaches, Den Leader Coach and an two assistant Cubmasters. Sounds great
doesn't it. Well lets look at reality.
Committee Chairman also is Den Leader for Den #9.
Cubmaster (Me) also is Den Leader for Den #11.
Assistant Cubmaster also is Assistant Den Leader for Den #9.
Assistant Cubmaster also is Den Leader for Webelos Den #1.
Den Leader Coach also is Treasurer & Secretary.
Advancement Chairman is Assistant Webelos Leader Den #10.
Primary Tiger Cub Coach is only that (But he's thinking about being a Den
Leader next year).
Secondary Tiger Cub Coach is Assistant Den Leader Den #11.
Fundraising Chairman is Assistant Den Leader Den #11.
Chartered Rep is also our Blue & Gold Banquet Chairman.
The remaining Den Leaders and Assistants hold only one job.
Now regarding Tiger Cubs. Last year our Tiger Cub Coordinator was a Tiger
Cub Parent. Why? Because last year was the first year we were in existence
and he volunteered. Also, noone else knew what they were doing so why
change things with the Tiger Cubs. This year the Tiger Cub Coordinator has
a son that went through the program last year and has some knowledge of how
it should work. He's completed fast start and basic (with the new Tiger Cub
program section). I do get a number of parents to help out on other
activities. Those that do hold 'official' positions are registered in a
primary position, however they are trained in all positions (ie. I'm a
trained CM and DL, my CC is a trained CC and DL, my DLC is a trained DLC,
MC, DL). When it comes down to the basics, having my parents adequately
trained and knowing what they are doing is more important than which
position they are registered for on the National Computer System.
