Thoughts on the Webelos to Boy Scout transition:
Some of you may remember that our cub scouts were awarded
the Arrow of Light at a campout last spring. The ceremony
was purposefully restricted to presentation of the Award
only, and did *not* include a crossing over. This was
because the crossing over ceremony was to be part of a Boy
Scout camporee held about a month later.
In retrospect, this was a mistake: the Arrow of Light
ceremony and the crossing over should have been done *at the
same time*. The lag between our cub scout campout and the
upcoming Boy scout campout was too great, and too few of the
boys went to the camporee. This left things in a state of
limbo; my son Rob is still trying to encourage some of his
friends to get involved with his troop.
Far better, I think, to make the transition to the Boy
Scouts direct: literally "hand them over" to their troops at
a combined Cub Scout-Boy Scout campout.
