Webelos to Scouts: when

In my experience, the "best" time for a Webelos Scout to join the Troop is
immediately after earning the Arrow of Light. In practice this is generally
in the winter or spring. The new Boy Scout has an opportunity to "get
his feet wet" before going to summer camp; and he comes home from camp with
a good chunk of the Scout skills needed for First Class.
The new Scouts, former Webelos Scouts, who do not go to camp tend to loose
interest . . . they are behind their peers. Some do stay and perform (I was
one of those MANY years ago) . . . again, in my experience, these are the
Scouts whose parents need to be told the value of that first summer camp.
The former Webelos who wait until the following fall rarely if ever join.
There is no "vacation" from Scouts, other activities will fill the young
