My opinion only!:
I wear permanently sewn on my shirt:
Eagle Scout Award Knot
Arrow of Light Award Knot
Religious Award (Youth) Knot
I have a flexible plastic piece with clutch back pins with all the rest of
my knots hot-glued to it.
The ones sewn to my shirt are ones I earned in the Scout program. The
other ones were *given* to me for attending trainings and putting in time
like I should have been doing anyway. In other words, some *I* got and
some were given.
Those of you that have been to Wood Badge know that the uniform there is
plain, plain, plain. Or as our course director called it: the Ghandi
shirt. I'm proud to wear the awards that I've gotten, but I find that the
only ones the boys really care about are the ones I have sewn on, as those
are the ones that they can get. And somehow they are impressed that a guy
30 years their senior was even a Scout. The only ones that care about the
others are other adults and then only those that have a chestful.
I guess that I'm being a little over critical here, but, Mike, when you, a
stranger, walked into that room looking a little like Norman Schartzkopf,
you should have expected a little attention. I bet Mrs. Norman gets
shoved into a corner, too.
