Don't you have a card like this one (*holds card to screen*)???? This card
ALWAYS goes with me everywhere I go because I can use it to demostrate
several aspects of Scouting's programs......
The 11 "skills" ("competencies", it is sometimes called!) are:
Knowing and using the resources of the group
Understanding the characteristics and needs of group members
Representing the group
Controlling group performance
Setting the example
Managing learning (effective teaching in some circles, particularly Exploring).
(*Mike and others...the card that I raised to the screen is an old Adult
Leader Development card used for the old Cornerstone courses I used to teach.
On the front side, is space for your name and unit and address and the
signature of the coach/counselor that signed you off for the completion of
the first three phases of Adult Leader Development.
You used to use this card to go into the Scout Center and purchase or order
your fully-embrodered position patch (when we used that to signify those of
us that are trained by BSA standards). When the BSA wisely decided to use
the old "trained
the old "trained" strips instead of the costly (and tradable and "showy"
as in "I have mine...you don't. You *must* be worth zero!") patches, these
cards found their way to lots of garbage cans.
Not mine......the reverse side has the the 11 skills and also two essential
tasks of Scouting leaders...to get the job done and to keep the group together!
