Sure that a correct answer about no change in handclasps for O-A
had been given, I deleted the message asking about this. So please
forgive me for not responding to the person who posed the original
I dug out my old ceremony books (Ordeal 1968 and 1981 printing.)
My interpretation of the different descriptions between 1968 and
1981 indicates to me that the handclasp did indeed change. Either that or
my intrepretation of the current handclasp is wrong. Since I have been out
of it for about seven years (graduate studies and working with a scout
troop and two now Eagle Scouts, it is time to get active in the O-A again)
I may not have the correct view, but I am sure someone will correct me.
My 1968 Brotherhood book does not indicate the existance of a
handshake as part of the ceremoney. I seem to remember there being
one as part of the Brotherhood ceremonies we did in the early 80's.
(Then again maybe I was too busy to worry about details, after all
I was chapter advisor.) The Vigil book did not indicate any change
between 1968 and 1983 printings.
If an O-A member would like specifics about what what my old
ceremony books indicate, they may send me mail directly.
