Bob and others,
I have to agree with you. There are many cases (in particular, small
troops) where the manual record outshines the computer version by far. As
far as a back up of the record book goes, I know of at least one Troop.
The scoutmaster of Troop 860 in Hermosa Beach California kept a file on
each scout in the troop. This was in addition to the record book. In this
file when the troop copy of the merit badge card and a copy of any
advancement sheet the boys name was on. When we moved to Tucson, he just
gave me the files. Neither of my boys had any trouble with advancement
records when it came time for submitting their Eagle Scout Records.
Catalina council is one of the councils that actually checks for an
advancement record for every merit badge on all Eagle Applications.
If the advancement sheet is not found in the council office, then other
evidence of the advancement must be produced before the board of review.
