When I was in L.A. the forest service had a program called Trail Boss to
train adults to lead scouts on trail work projects. The problems are a
little bit different. In L.A. it is dry most of the time, but when it
rains whole mountian sides some down. The Santa Monica Mountains and tL.A.
National Forest are full of VERY STEEP mountians. They give out a flyer on
how the forest service specs trail work. It talks about water bars,
vegitation clearance, etc... It has some good pictures (mostly pictures).

let you copy some pages from their book. (I think they all get the same
If you want a copy E-mail me direct and let me know.
