cutting off patches
Tue, 4 Aug 1992 13:02:00 EDT
I will be removing a number of Juniata Valley Council potches from my
uniforms over the next few weeks and replacing them with Will Rogers Council
patches. I'll be adding one each to my collection and my two boy's
collections but will be glad to send the others to interested collectors on
the list--I'll have a dozen or so including a couple that have never been
sewn on. I'll honor requests on a first come, first served basis. Send
private e-mail to JHS8 at PSUVM or PSUVM.PSU.EDU.
If you are not familiar with the Council, it serves four counties in Central
Pennsylvania (three districts) and is headquartered out of Reedsville, PA.
The council camp is Seven Mountains Scout Camp and as many as half of the
units camping there are from out of council. It is beautiful with adequate
facilities and a good camp staff. The only problem is a country road
through the middle of the camp. Use is low and Scouts seem to be cautious
in crossing. The camp has a tradition that I have not seen before. At the
end of each week, when the flags are lowered for the week, the flags
(American and Pennsylvania) are presented to two staff members in
recognition of their service that week. No one knows the recipients until
the presentation is made and it frequently brings tears to the eyes of the
recipients. I could find no one who remembered when the tradition started
and I understand that the flags are donated annonymously.
I'm out of here Friday so get your requests in by August 6. If you miss
the date, try anyway, I'll try to telnet back.
