Just a point of order with no flame intended...
You stated that "As for who is nominated, my policy has been to nominate all
First Class or better...."
As Scoutmasters, we CERTIFY that the Scouts are eligible for election. The
Scouts themselves NOMINATE persons for the Order. We may CERTIFY that only
those First Class Scouts and better with the neccessary number of nights and
who have shown in our opinion true Scout Spirit can be certified to be
nominated; but the actual process calls for Scouts to nominate those whom
THEY feel is the best campers and Scouts in the Troop/Team.
You are certainly correct and on-target with your statements about the Scouts
knowing which is the best of the ones you have certified. This also solves
your problem with telling those that "just met the nights" up until the
weekend (my policy was that you had to EXCEED the minimum within a month
prior to election (and then give them ample time to exceed that minimum!)
While we are on the subject of OA elections, do any of you allow for elections
to be conducted at summer camp?? There are several units that do have those
elections during summer camp and I wanted to know (actually confirm my
personal suspictions, actually) hwo they handled it then.
