In my experience, the best communication from an election team to the
troops has been to have a brief roundtable presentation on the eligibilty
If the only place to obtain written request for election forms is at this
roundtable, the information should be disseminated reasonably well. As
As for where to hold an election, a regular troop meeting with this as
the program has generally worked well for me . . . occasionally a campout
or camporee or summercamp has been tried but the problems with the former
two is the necessary turnout, the problem with the latter is the scout who
will have the nights by the end of the week but the election is on Monday.
The scout is not eligible but how does one calmly and peaceably get this
As for who is nominated, my policy has been to nominate all first class or
better, with the nights, and who have shown the necessary Scout Spirit (in
my opinion) . . . the troop members then tell me the rest of the story . . .
active patrol leaders have the best probability of being elected . . . and
if they were not elected while patrol leaders, the likely hood of a later
election is greatly diminished . . . plus the scouts can discern the fine
points of Scout Spirit much better than they can express in a SM conference!
