First reply to Bill Marshal,
I think first thing to soften the SM is to make sure that
he knows that the first order of service of the OA is to
scouting at the UNIT level. Get out your OA handbook and
politly try to go over the PURPOSE of the ORDER with the SM.
Then make sure that he is aware that the OA is truly a YOUTH
run organization, and as such, there tends to be a few BUMPS
on the road of progress. The OA is not yet perfect. Perhaps
that may help him to understand, and have a bit more sympathy
with the elections teams, and the OA etc.
However, be warned that ther are some Scout Master that just
decide, for some personal reasons, that THE OA is NOT good,
and does not help his unit or program. That is unfortunatly
the write of a SM. He can decide NOT to hold OA elections!
So tread with caution, and try to show how the OA will be
of benefit to your UNIT, the scouts, and to the SM.
more to follow, I got to be some place else, 10 minutes ago.
