What happend to Pepperdine at Lake Arrowhead camps, are they no longer
offering jamboree style there?
You might check Orange county, San Diego, Long Beach, Bakersfield (not sure
council name), and Ventura county Councils to see if they offer Jamboree
stye cooking. Nothing says you have to use L.A.'s Lake Arrowhead. The
troop I was active with in L.A. mostly went out of council. As far as
Western L.A. Council goes, I know Whitsitt is Dinning hall and I would
almost have to assume that Catalina Island is (but then I have never been
to this summer camp). You might also check San Bernadino. There are a lot
of Scout coucils which may have camps not much futher or even closer than
L.A.'s, don't give up. Call around.
About the comment about making a fire in heavy rain which was directed to
MAS, they do have heavy rains in
Southern California and it should not make much difference. I have started
fires under such conditions many times. If you put your dinning fly up
right, you can stay in it's selter while you cook. If you are trained
properly, it is no big deal.
