If you do a good job of building the fire, one safe (somewhat if you ignor
the batter accid) is to use a thin wire (I used copper) and wrap it around
the heads of some kitchen matches. The kitchen matches should be stuck
vertical in a piece of wood. Use a minimum of six matches (insurance).
When you connect the lead to a car battery, the wire will heat up and light
the matches. Placed right (correctly) under a bunch of dry pine needles
and good kindeling, you can have a fire which starts at the command of you
campfire MC. Use your imagination as to how to make the fire start
(yelling, sinnging, etc...) The person off stage and out of sight should
light the fire on cue by completing the connection to the batter.
It is best to use the thin wire only around the matches. Use good
insulated wire leading up to the fire. Burry it and then pull it off stage
after the fire lights.
Use of uninsulated wire outside of the fire could give you a fire where you
do not want it!
