Frank and others have been "beatin me up" for suggesting that
BSA should compromise their historic postions to avoid the constant
court battles and financial ruin that may result, and in the end
BSA may loose most of the battles. I, AT FIRST thought, why can't
some kind of midle ground be found to allow all youth into scouting?
Well last night, one of the US presidential candidates was on TV.
Which one is not really important, but what he had to say made
me realize that I was slipping into the same complacent mold that
many people in the US have gone in the last decade. He said,
one major problem in the US is that most people no longer take
a stand for suport or basic moral and ethical values! NObody stands
for nothing! WOW! If we don't soon begin to reverse the moral and
ethical decay, the US will stand for nothing! NO values, No principals
no ethics, nothing but making a quick dollar, at all costs. $$$$$
There it is MONEY, the root of all evil say some. And I fell into
the same trap. I was ready for Scouting to sell all the historic
principals to save money! Maybe Scouting should not change so fast.
Maybe BSA can examine how WORLD Scouting has grown and adjusted to
some of the changes in society, and find a way to allow a few more
youth into the program, with OUT giving up the fundamental values that
has kept scouting strong for more than 80 years. Giving up on all
fundamental values and principals to save a few dollars, is NOT the
So don't give up on me yet! Just keep beating, until you see the
light go on, even if it is very dim.
