Just got back from a vision research convention in
Sarasota, Florida; couple of real eye-opening talks ...
Thought I'd let you know what the current state of
affairs is in Oak Park. As you may recall, some members of
one of the local Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs)
petitioned the Board of Education to remove the Cub and Boy
Scouts from the schools, in response to what they saw as
religious discrimination inherent in the scouting program.
Two weeks ago, the story appeared on page three of one of
the local newspapers; there has been little comment in the
parers since then. More recently, two of the local PTOs
have held meetings in which strong support of the scouts was
expressed. These statements of support will be sent to the
Board; what they will do is not at all clear. Also, the co-
president of one of the PTOs (i.e., my wife) is worried that
some sort of legal action may be undertaken against the
Board should they indicate support for current use of the
schools by the scouts.
