The information you have been receiving is quite correct. Medicals are
required at all of our camps (even Philmont) for all people attending. And
there are many ways around the cost, and/or keeping the cost to a minimum.
How long does it take to do a blood pressure, etc. check? When my sons were
smaller and their Father and I were attending camps, we went to the local
county modilbe health units which only cost a few dollars.
However, tomorrow (5/9) all the scouts and adults in our district in
Chicago Area Council can go (with parental signed health forms) to have
their camp physicals done free. The National Guard unit is doing it for
us. They have done it a number of times and it really does help.
p.s. We have always had health criteria and health and safety rules that
are better, more thorough, and far and beyond anyone else's , but then we
have an excellent record of safety for our boys and adults that matches our
care. You REALLY do not want our program to become sloppy and not care!
It is, as said before, for the good of the boys and adults.
