Into Scouting now?

Kathie and Don both have good points, but may I make a suggestion. Talk it
over with the Scoutmaster if you think your son is ready to go into
scouting. My experience with the 10.5 year old boy scouts is that most are
not mature enough yet for scouting. Most do not yet have the attention
span required for scouting where we try to have the scouts themselves run
the meetings and outings. As you can imagine, many troops are a bit on the
side of kaos. If you son is less than 10.5, even if he is mature enough,
(I am assuming some level of maturity since he was moved ahead a year in
school) you may want to heed Don's remark anyway. As an adult, I proudly
were my Arrow of light knot from my cub scouting years on my current
uniform. It is not as well know outside of scouting as the Eagle Scout
award, but to me it is important. Just like there are other things in
scouting which are more important to me personally than the Eagle Scout
Award I earned as a youth.
Let him be a kid as long as he can!
