As a boy I worked at a terrific summer camp called the Buckskin Scout
Reservation (aka Camp Dilly's Mill) which lay between the WV Seneca State
Forest and the Mononghelia National Forest (which abuts the George
Washington National Forest in VA). The closest town was 13 miles away in
Marlington WV. Counci is Buckskin Council, Charleston WV. Loved it as
a boy, but I have completely lost touch for these past 23 years. Anyone
know how it is doing?
At the time I left staff, they were trying to use all the 1000s of surrounding
acres for high adventure expeditions and using Buckskin as a base camp. Some
even refered to this plan as the Philmont of the East (seriously). It seems
reasonably that fell through, but the wilderness is still there. Eastern WV
and Western VA have to be as beautiful of an area as was ever created. Even
if the camp has fallen on hard times, the sceenery is worth the trip.
You can take the boy out of West Virginia, but ....
