Yes, after about 4 months too long, I am back on SCOUTS-L. For those of
you who have joined since I sent my farewell message last December, I'll
I am one of the original subscribers to SCOUTS-L using my account at
Central Michigan University. When I graduated in December, I moved home,
where I did not have a local call access to my account. I signed off the
list and concentrated my energies on finding a job. Since that time, my
school account has been devalidated (something I didn't expect based on
past performaces). I have resorted to my Compu$erve account and have
found a program to reduce my online costs. If you still have my old
address of 34RXESC@CMUVM.BITNET or 34RXESC@cmuvm.csv.cmich.edu, disregard it.
I have also found a job. I am now working for Knight-Ridder Financial
Publishing in downtown Chicago, using computers to produce charts on
commodities markets, among other things. I have moved to Illinois and am
living in Oak Forest, IL which is 45minutes from downtown.
As for my Scouting background, I have about 15 years experience. 3 years
as a Cub, 7 as a scout, and almost 5 as an adult leader. I am a life
scout, attended the 1985 National Jamboree, and have worked 6 years on
summer camp staffs (2 + 1 year CIT at Camp Rota-Kiwan in Kalamazoo, MI; 3
years at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM). I am a member of Alpha
Phi Omega, the National Service Fraternity based on the Boy Scouts of America.
Currently, I am registered as an Assistant Scoutmaster in my troop at
"home," Troop 551, LaSalle Council, in Galien Michigan. I intend to get
involved with a troop in Illinois next fall.
Since I am using a compuserve account, I do ask some considerations from
those people posting messages. Please try to keep them short. CompuServe
has a limited gateway to the Internet and will only allow messages of less
than 50,000 characters (which is about 600 lines). Second, try to keep
postings relevant (although this hasn't been as much of a problem on
Scouts-l as other places I've seen). My mailbox is limited to 100 mail
messages at a time, and since I intend to sign on to some other lists, I can
easily see this becoming a problem as I only expect to be able to check my
account about once every 24 hours. These are the limitations I face, but
maybe someday, I'll have a REAL internet account again.
Yours in Scouting,
Scott A. Begin Assistant Scoutmaster
