3. The LDS church maintains one of the largest (if not THE largest)
geneological databases in the world. This database is open to members and
non-members; I believe that all the church asks is that new research and
information be donated to the database in return. I'm pretty sure that
their use for this database is to perform ceremonies for (deceased) ancestors
to baptize them into the LDS church.
Let's remember that this forum is NOT the place to summarize individual
religious teaching. You should consult representatives from that
religion to obtain doctrine as THEY SEE IT. BUT, we should be able to
list some EXCEPTIONS that need to be noted in order to acommodate
individual scouts so that ALL can enjoy a full scouting program.
The Church does NOT believe that they can BAPTIZE their deceased ancestors
by obtaining their names. They DO believe that one of the required
observances to receive the highest blessings is to be baptized, and therefore
do ceremonial BAPTISMS which that soul is able to ACCEPT or REJECT.
NO ONE can be forced to become a member of the LDS church.
