Mr. Crockett and others interested in getting some clear, clean answers
to your concerns:
First off, it is not my nor anyone else's fault when a onelined message
is preceeded by ten lines of header and perhaps another two lines of
footer afterwards. It will do the same thing when I send my *various number
of pages* worth of information. It will also do the same when Kathie makes
a comment, Jon makes one, even the people who just read and delete (like
you obivously do....not a bad thing, but sometimes you have to save the
comments like many other people do. That requires reading *each* entry.
I do. ) the entries.
Second, yes, we have hashed and reshashed the issue of gay/bi/les Scouters
many times over this medium and each time, it is NOT because someone
woke up that morning and stated to him/herself "Hey! It's time to create
some more contriversy...let'
some more contriversy...let's place something on the Scouts-list about this
subject once more!" many of the issues and discussions are based either
on current policy or the outside media informing us...which in this case,
happened several times last year, twice this year (so far) and will probably
come up again before the BSA
come up again before the BSA's National Meeting in Cincinnati in May.
Third, (*said with a broad smile and tongue-in-cheek*) I think that everyone
did a combined sigh of relief when they saw that I made a posting and it
*didn't* fill up 100 blocks of quota, required 30 minutes to read and another
20 minutes to understand it and two seconds to delete it all! (*personal note:
I think that I make contributions in various sizes because of the things that
I personally believe in as well as those things that I feel that I can bring
to our "roundtable discussions". I don't do it so that I can monopolize the
list nor do I feel that anyone sees my entries as doing so.
Finally, I read EVERY comment on this list. Even the ones that make me angry,
make me cry (not a common sight!), and makes me dig into my vast library
to find the answers (or to "use my resources" to find out the answer). My
answer(s) may NEVER match everyone else's and that's why we have such a
wealth of "personal resources" on this list. I value EVERYONE's opinion...even
WEBELOS Scouts like Bobby whom writes just to say "hi!" and the WEBELOS that
come on from time to time and ask me questions like "do people in Kentucky
*really* walk around with no shoes or socks on??" and the like.
You may NOT like it....but a great many others value the comments when they
are placed here in an adult-like manner, when they are responded to with
sincerity and forthrightness, and when even when you get the policy or
procedure wrong (or mixed up), your comment reflects *you* and *your stand*
on whatever it is we are talking about, whether its Eagle Palms, Gay Scouters,
Directions for Scouting to Take or even Recipes for Camporees.
(*now, its time to take my children shopping and eating!!*)
Settummanque!!@HEY!! I hear them knocking..they have been patient, so you
better turn this thing off and get going!
