A couple of corrections to Mike's posting about the 1993 Jamboree. The "gate
fee" for 1993 is $395 instead of $425. Cooking at jamborees was done on
charcoal prior to 1989. In 1993, as in 1989, cooking will be done on propane
stoves. The jamboree will provide the fuel, patrols must supply the stoves
(hurry out and purchase Coleman stock)!!! Also, in 1981 and 1985 the jamboree
supply form went to participants BEFORE the jamboree instead of after. I am
not certain about the 1989 jamboree. Mike is right though, use this form to
order patches, mugs, tee shirts, hat pins, belt buckles, etc. These items go
REALLY fast once you get to the jamboree.
One thing we are doing to help with the "limited family budget" is developing a
payment plan of $50 a month for the next 12 months. Our council's price is
$675 ($50 application fee, $600 in 12 $50 payments, and a $25 final payment).
The payment plan will also allow us to constantly monitor a Scout's interest in
attending the jamboree. If payments are continually delinquent, we can replace
the Scout with a paying alternate. The fee for us is less than other areas of
the country because we are only 8 long Greyhound hours away from AP Hill.
John, I also strongly recommend that you send Eric in 1993!! To have two
once-in-a-lifetime opportunities is rare. I also encourage you to participate
in some way (contingent, staff or visitor). It's unreal.
