A different, but related subject:
While the BSA as an organization is non-denominational, is it allowable
for religious chartered org.'s to create a closed troop? My troop
ran in to this problem. Although they were sponsored by a Roman
Catholic church, the membership comprised many faiths. Enter a new rector
for the church, who favored replacing the SM (a catholic from another
parish) with someone from the parish. None of the ASM's were catholic, and
he knew of no one who was willing, so it didn't happen, but it got us thinking
whether he could enforce such discriminatory rules on the troop. In the
limiting case, could he limit the troop to only parishioners?
