Seriously though, I agree that Alpine is the best district in TAC. At the
recent District Operations Conference, Alpine took more than its fair
share of the awards. It was a very memorable conference. Alpine District
had the conference closing. At that time we said goodby to our soon to
eye in the house.
We have already begun to merge with Three Rivers and Bavarian Districts.
Although there has been some playing at rivalry, both districts are in
fact welcoming us with open arms. Vince Cozzone is getting his. He
will be the ne DE for Charlemegne District in Belgium. Rough life, but
he thinks he will live through it.
For those of you who have been reading the discussions about female
Scoutmasters, I want to add my two cents. For the past several years,
TAC has had female Scoutmasters. If it were not for these dedicated volunteers
we would not have had a program in many areas. This was especially true
last year during the desert operation. While many of you had family
or friends who deployed, we literally had every volunteer in a district
sent. If it were not for those who remained, particularly the women
Scouting in Europe would have ceased to function. And you know what - -
the scouting program flourished, the scouts received quality training
and the new voluteers have stayed with the program. Don't kid
yourselves, we have a need in scouting for all volunteers -- male and
