We haven't had this incident occur --- yet. Many Girl Scout Troops meet in our
school cafeteria. The Cub Pack meetings are also held there. Unfortunately,
the cafeteria serving tables are part of the cafeteria/auditorium. Last year,
someone (still unknown) damaged one of the tables. As a result, ANY group
wishing to use the cafeteria must sign a statement that they will pay for any
damages occuring during the use of the facility. If the meeting is held at
night, the room is checked the next morning for damages. In the case of my
Brownie meetings, I have the custodian come lock up and check before I clear
out of there each week.
At the beginning of the year, when I had my parent/daughter meeting, I
explained in complete detail the situation and that the troop would be charged
for any damages. I also stated that if I knew who had done something, the
parents would be asked to pay. I have received no complaints about this; but
then again I haven't had to actually implement this either!
My feeling is that children in the Wolf age range do indeed know that glass
breaks when kicked! I would sit down and talk to the parents with the boy
present to try to resolve the situation. Include the principal, too. He
sounds like he has more gripes than just this one situation!
