In the fall Boy Scouting Program Helps (part of the fall editions of Scouting
magazine) is a short "makes sence!" explaination of those eight methods
of Scouting...I use this in speeches and workshops (as a matter of fact, this
coming weekend's one of them...)
Scouting is a game (personal growth) played by boys under boy leaders (Scout
Patrol) that they choose (boy leadership), guided by an adult backed by a
community organization (adult association).
Scouting provides the boy with an active outdoor life (outdoors), grants him
recognition for mastering various skills (advancement) and gives him a
chance to wear a uniform of an organization that he is a member of (uniform).
It holds before him the ideals of a true Scout and encourages him to "help
other people" at all times (Scout Oath and Law).
Hope that it clears up the muddy waters...but like Chris stated, attendance
at Scoutmaster Fundamentals will clear it even better than this!!
Settummanque!@HEY!! I'm going to be teaching one of those this weekend...
