Re: What's after Eagle?

Generally, I like to sit back and listen to other people's opinions, but one
not in Troye Kauffman's last message really got to me.
>It's perfectly OK if you have 13 or 14 year olds that EARN their Eagles.
> The scouting trail shouldn't stop at Eagle:
With which I wholeheartedly agree. Any scout who actually deserves to recieve
his Eagle at age 13 of 14 should recieve it. To withhold it would be wrong.
He goes on to list things such Eagles can do to remain active in scouting. The
point that caught my attention is:
> 4. Have them start thinking about staffing summer camps, JLT's, and
ultimately, maybe a High Adventure Base!
An Eagle scout should not be "attending" a JLT. HE SHOULD BE HELPING TO RUN IT!
As far as I am concerned, a scout should not be awarded the Eagle Rank until
he has demonstrated his leadership skill, and if he still needs to attend a
JLT, sounds to me like he hasn't actually EARNED his rank.
I realize this sounds like a flame, but please don't treat it as one, for I hold
this opinion very strongly.
