Schools in the western NY area may get a "no charge" instructional
and/or student use account, for BITNET access at the State University
of NY at Buffalo, by requesting such an account through the Office
of the Director of Computing and Information Technology, Computing
Center, North Campus, Amherst NY 14260. It is up to the school and/or
individuals to provide equipment such at the PC and/or modems.
Dial up access is available at various baud rates, and the network
handles various terminal emulations or you may be able to get a
copy of KERMIT, if you do not have compatible communication software.
The university has also supported use of the computer systems for
computer merit badge work, and many on this network have assisted!
I expect the many PUBLIC (and even private) universities would do the
same in the support of education etc.
