I live in Charleston, South Carolina. I read an article in our Sunday news
paper about two scouts that were not allowed admittance into a club.
The article stated that two scouts were not allowed into the club because of
the color of their skin. When one little boy tried to get in, the manager
reportedly told the him that we don't allow blacks in this club. The rest of
the troop refused to go into the club. The manager said that it was a private
club and whoever made the reservations should have checked the clubs rules.
I'm thrilled to report on my way to work this morning a news report said the
manager was relieved of his duties.
This article made me wonder if anyone else has not been able to go certain
places because some of minorities. If so, how do you usually handle it? Also,
in the troop do you talk about racism and the affects of racism? I am a parent
who will soon sign two of my sons up to be Cub Scouts. I would appreciate any
