Girls in scouting

Over here in England we have just been given the option of
allowing girls into our scout troops. Last week my own troop had an executive
meeting where this issue was discussed.
The other scout leaders all agree that having girls in the troop would
probably put the boys to shame as the girls seem to be a lot more practical at
that age and are also demons at hockey and other such games. Having seen
guides at camp they also have far higher camping standards as a rule.
We are not going to let them into our troop though unless we can get
several female leaders to run a mixed troop with us. You have to be so
carefull these days, even when running the troop with just boys we always
ensure that there are two adult leaders present, we never leave one person on
their own to run a troop night.
I think that having girls in the troop is going to cause a lot of
problems. The main one is getting extra leaders, it's hard enough getting the
leaders that we have already. Venture scouts in England are mixed but as most
of them are over the age of consent and run the meetings themselves any way
there is not such a big problem there.
Cheers for now
