We charge the boys and leaders for registration ($7.00), insurance ($.60
- Tiger Cubs pay $1.20 for insurance to register the boy and adult partner),
and Boys' Life ($7.80, but only if they want to subscribe). We have also
charged a $12.00 annual "assessment" in lieu of Pack dues, but we will
probably increase that amount to $15.00 this year (I want to see the Pack
make a contribution to the World Friendship Fund and start building an
equipment fund.). We will also add a *late* charge to this assessment
to avoid having to collect this money at the end of the year.... The dens
collect separate monthly dues to pay for den activities and they pay for
their *own* badges and awards. We also charge for "big" events with their
own fees or admissions, but we do not charge for the Pinewood Derby, Blue
and Gold Banquet, or other routine Pack activities.
This system works well for us and we always have at least a small "cushion"
left in our bank account at the end of the year.
(Yes, we do maintain our own checking account and no, we do not keep any
money in our "account" at the Council HQ. The DE's and Scout Exec can and
do manipulate the Pack and Troop accounts if they see a "need" or if any of
the accounts develop and maintain a large surplus....)
