For all those in Packs out there...
Last night we had only the second pack committee meeting in the last
2 -3 YEARS. The first was last month. Needless to say we are facing a lot of
questions that have never been addressed so directly before. Essentially,
we have been a 1-2 man show as far as administration, i.e., the cubmaster did
it all. To the question...
We are trying to set up a budget. Our question is how much to charge the boys?
How do other packs handle initial fees and dues? How much is dues? Why?
Last year the pack asked $10 for returning scouts at the beginning of the year
and $15 for new scouts. We won't do that again! (BTW - I wasn't in on that de
cision thankfully). The problems included no weekly dues, no boys life, and
heavy dependence on selling popcorn (at which we are quite good).
What do you think? We think we might ask $15-20 up front ($7 nat; 7.80 BL,
the rest for us) and .50 per boy per meeting. But shouldn't Webelos pay more
since they are a drain on resources? (Last year most of the expenditures were
for the Webelos, but they meet more often, do more expensive things, earn many
more awards (to buy) and I like to spend money on my boys (oh well :-) ).
We have a fine treasurer this year (last years was, well , ...), but he is abou
t to pull his hair out over what ought to be really straight forward. Help...?
