Jay--I am reasonably certain that the council should not be asking you for the
information you described--all they are supposed to ask is if you have ever
been convicted of a felony. If you don't mind going to the police to have
a background check run on yourself, okay, but this is probably out of line
in terms of legal employment practices (not to mention that if someone was
unsavory enough to have a history of child abuse, they wouldn't hesitate
for a minute to falsify a police check that they provide).
As far as which force, I suspect that you should avoid University Police
as a general rule. Best o' luck.
