BOYS LIFE MAGAZINE

An American scouter frien of mine has been sending me the BSA
scouting magazine and also the Boys life magazine. I have been sending him in
return the British scouting magazine and any other stuff that I think he might
find of interest. Both the American magazines are good and contain lots of
interesting items, but what concerns me is some of the advertisers who are
allowed to advertise their wares within the pages. The other week I noticed an
advert for a video about a boy who was having 'OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES' this
would seem to me to be bordering on the occult.
I also saw that 'Sea Monkeys' were still being advertised. When I was
a lad we used to be able to buy the occasional Superman comic over here in
England. These creatures were advertised in these magazines and I always
wished that I lived in America so that I could get some. The description of
them in the magazines was incredible. Can you imagine the dissapointment that
I felt when I discovered that these so called 'Sea Monkeys' were nothing more
than brine shrimps. There must be loads of boys and girls in the States
handing over their hard earned cash for these and similar items which are being
advertised in the scouting magazine and Boys Life.
Would anyone else agree with me that all adverts in these magazines
should be first vetted for their suitability and also to see if they give the
children value for money.
With that I will climb down off my soap box.
Cheers for now
