I am writing to thank all ou you who over this last month have made
such terrific suggestions for my cub campout. Rather than go into
an individual thank-you for each person, let me tell you what we are
planning - then you will be able to see your own suggestions.
Before I begin -- Thanks again.
To the person who suggested I contact the Order of the Arrow for the
campfire - a bit thank you in particular. See, I am a lodge advisor,
and that suggestion had me RUN to our ceremonies committee chair and ask
if he wanted to do a Webelos Crossover. Long story made short, he said
yes and now we are looking into possibly doing Webelos crossovers as a
Lodge service. This Friday night we will see how well it works.
For those who might be interested, the ceremony team of approx 5
indians will light the large log-cabin type fire at the beginning
then remove the second year webelos while the Pack conducts more
routine awards (e.g., my 8 first year Webelos have earned 26 different
awards since the last Pack awards were held in Jan.) At the end of
business, an Indian will guide the second year Webelos into the council
ring (Oh, BTW, we are at the council camp for this event and we have
reserved the large campfire circle known as the Circle of Pines). The
indian leader will first lead the boys to an indian who will explain what it me
ant to earn Bobcat and how that represented a terrifice beginning ....
Then they are led to a second indian who explains Wolf, the a 3rd who
explains Bear, then a 4th who talks of the Webelos badge and Arrow of Light.
This last indian is standing at a bridge which the boys will crossover
to the Troop on the other side. The entire troop is coming, most of the
Ex Comm of the OA, of course the whole Pack and lots of parents. Wow!
On saturday we are playing two of the games in the GAMES file on the
SCOUTS-L listserv: (1) Naval Battle and (2) Mixed up names.
We are playing these on a huge field at Camp Manatoc and we will have
awards for the teams that place first second and third in each.
Saturday night we are having a Campfire and so far every skit has come out
of the SKIT file on the SCOUTS-L listserv.
Furthermore we are having 2 all day contests: (1) a tree test which I will
type up and send one day, and (2) a contest for a "door Prize." The latter
is "Can you make one word from rearranging the letters of NEW DOOR?"
Of course the answer is "ONE WORD." To the one (or 2) who first get this
by writing the answer on an official entry form and depositing it into
the official contest box will receive the door prize = a new door! Actually,
is a doll house door, painted red and having an appropriate inscription.
well tired of writing for now. Thanks again to all who have helped by your
private and public postings.
