When I was working on the William Hornaday Award, our state conservation
office offered me the same tree deal...what I did is to offer them my services
in exchange for the trees...since manual labor is worth at least $3.50 a hour
I easily traded one afternoon of "back breaking" for 25 trees at .85 a tree.
Most GOOD conservation rangers and staff members, seeing the possibility of
getting "free work" from a Eagle candidate would gladly exchange a few tree
saplings for some work on a project that they don't have the time/willingness
to do....and I did...and I can see my fruits to this very day in Keyes and
Winneger Parks in Rose Terrace (my "hometown").
Settummanque@ HEY!! It wasn't the most fun thing to do, but looking at
those trees, I can see the forest.......
