This is in reply to the question about program ideas for the end of the week
at camp. I have a couple of suggestions of games I have participated in, and
I thought I'd share them.
1. Scavenger Hunt -- This was really a lot of fun, and it really got our
troop excited. It does have it's problems, though. Basically, it is run
very similiar to any scavenger hunt, but with a couple of rules. Troops can
only find objects in their site or public areas. No going into other sites
to find things. Some of the items on the list: something from '89 Jambo, a
four-leaf clover, a lanyard, a balloon, etc. The winner is the troop that
brings back the most on the list the earliest. Patrols are averaged out so
that all troops have the same advantage. One problem, though -- Many personal
needs to be taken so that all items get back to the appropriate owners. Other
than that, the game can be a lot of fun.
2. A Mental Game -- This wasn't quite as fun, but it could be made to work.
and found at the waterfront?? Buddy tags). That one is a little easy, but you
get the idea. Many of them should be things that the troop has to go to the
area to find out. That way, you get a little movement, and everybody gets
excited. As I said, this was not as fun, but it coudl work well if you have
some creative "jokers" on staff.
Well, those are the only two I can think of now. I hope this helps, and I too
would be interested in other people's ideas about games.
